Former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) has raised concerns about the ongoing probe conducted by the Justice (Retired) L Narasimha Reddy Commission of Inquiry into alleged irregularities in Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) made during the previous BRS government’s tenure. In a letter addressed to the Commission, KCR highlighted what he perceives as a biased approach aimed at targeting the former government. The notice issued to him requested information on PPAs, to which KCR responded by emphasizing the significant advancements in power supply that occurred under the BRS regime. He pointed out the improvements in quality power supply that led to growth in sectors like IT and agriculture, resulting in increased IT exports and overall economic development.
KCR criticized the behavior of Justice Narasimha Reddy, accusing him of prejudgment and unfairness in the probe. He expressed disappointment in the Commission’s approach, stating that it seemed more interested in delivering a verdict against the previous government rather than seeking the truth through a fair investigation. KCR called for the voluntary resignation of Justice Narasimha Reddy from the Commission’s responsibilities.
The former CM highlighted the challenges faced in projects like the Yadadri Power Plant, citing delays due to external factors like the COVID-19 pandemic and environmental clearances. He defended the decisions made regarding power technology choices, emphasizing the need for timely solutions to address the state’s power deficit. KCR also criticized the current government’s attempts to undermine the achievements of the BRS government by initiating inquiries that he believes lack objectivity and fairness.
Overall, KCR’s letter to the Commission paints a picture of a leader defending his administration’s legacy and challenging what he perceives as a one-sided investigative process. The ongoing inquiry into power sector irregularities continues to spark controversy and political tension in Telangana.
