In a shocking incident in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, a 59-year-old man was rescued from a hospital lift after being stuck there for two days. The man, identified as Ravindran Nair, a resident of Ulloor, had visited the hospital with his wife on Saturday. His wife, who works at the hospital, had consulted a doctor and rejoined duty, leaving Nair behind. When Nair tried to leave, he got stuck in the lift of the OP Block at the government medical college. The lift reportedly got stuck between floors, and Nair’s phone fell and broke, leaving him unable to seek help.
Despite pressing the alarm and calling for assistance, Nair was trapped inside the lift without anyone coming to his rescue. His family had filed a missing complaint with the medical college police when they couldn’t locate him. Finally, on Monday morning, the operator of the lift discovered Nair and helped him out of the lift after two days. Nair’s son, Hari Shankar, mentioned that his father was quite shaken up from the ordeal, having spent close to 48 hours stuck in the lift.
The incident sheds light on the importance of safety measures and emergency protocols in public spaces, especially in hospitals. Elevators are designed to provide convenience and accessibility, but when malfunctions occur, they can turn into dangerous situations. Nair’s experience highlights the need for better monitoring and response systems to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Health Minister Veena George has directed an investigation into the incident, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to safety protocols to avoid such incidents in the future. With a focus on improving safety measures, incidents like these can hopefully be prevented and lives can be safeguarded in public spaces.
