The tragic incident of a fire breaking out in a building housing workers in Mangaf, Kuwait, has resulted in the loss of at least 41 lives, including several Indians, and left over 50 people injured. The building, which housed nearly 160 workers from the same company, saw the fire ignite in a kitchen on Wednesday morning.
The news of this devastating fire was met with deep shock and condolences from Union Minister of External Affairs, Dr S Jaishankar. Taking to social media to express his grief, Jaishankar extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured in the tragedy. He assured that the Indian Embassy in Kuwait is providing full support and assistance to those affected.
Following the incident, the Indian envoy to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaika, visited the Al-Adan hospital where over 30 Indian workers who were injured in the fire were receiving treatment. Assuring them of all necessary assistance, Swaika interacted with the patients to ensure their well-being.
The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has set up an emergency helpline number for Indian workers affected by the fire, urging them to reach out for updates and assistance. Additionally, the embassy shared that efforts are ongoing to provide all possible help to those impacted by the tragic incident.
Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah attributed the fire to code violations and real estate owner greed, emphasizing the need for strict regulations to prevent such disasters. The building, located in the Mangaf district, was reported to house a large number of migrant workers, including a significant Indian population.
The Kuwaiti authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, as the nation mourns the loss of lives and supports the injured in their recovery process. This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adherence to safety regulations and the need for swift emergency response to prevent such tragedies in the future.
