In a rather unconventional approach to tackle the issue of alcohol addiction, Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha advised women to ask their husbands to bring liquor home and drink it. This advice was given during a Nasha Mukti Abhiyan event in Bhopal, where the minister suggested that men consuming alcohol at home in front of their families would feel ashamed and eventually give up the habit. Kushwaha also recommended that women refrain from cooking for intoxicated husbands, and proposed the idea of ‘belan’ gangs, where women would use a rolling pin as a symbol of protest against drunken behavior. The minister explained that social values should not deter individuals from taking a stand against harmful practices. When asked about the potential implementation of a liquor ban in Madhya Pradesh, Kushwaha disclosed that he had previously suggested such a ban and that it was still under consideration at the government level. He emphasized the importance of public awareness in enforcing a liquor ban. This unorthodox approach to addressing alcohol addiction has sparked discussions and debates regarding the effectiveness of such tactics and the role of societal norms in influencing behavior.
