The Madras High Court made a significant decision on Sunday by rejecting a writ petition seeking the burial of Tamil Nadu Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state president K Armstrong in the party’s office premises. This ruling comes in the wake of K Armstrong being murdered by a gang of six members near his house in Chennai. The petition, filed by K Porkodi, the wife of the slain BSP leader, aimed to lay his body to rest at the party’s office in Chennai. However, Justice Subbarayan raised concerns about the party office being situated in a residential area, prompting a need for an alternative location for the cremation. As a result, the cremation is now scheduled to take place on private land in Pothur Village, Thiruvallur District.
In light of the developments in the case, it has been revealed that eight suspects have been arrested so far in connection with K Armstrong’s murder. While the Tamil Nadu police have stated that the murder was not politically motivated, they continue to investigate all possible angles. Additionally, 10 special teams have been formed under Additional Commissioner of Police (North), Asra Garg, to delve into the murder investigation. Many of the arrested individuals have pending cases against them, adding complexity to the situation.
BSP Supremo Mayawati also made an appearance at the Corporation School Ground in Chennai to pay her respects to K Armstrong and called for the case to be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In a public statement, she emphasized the need for effective law and order in the state, especially for the safety of the weaker sections. Asra Garg, the Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), North Chennai, highlighted the thoroughness of the interrogation and analysis leading to the arrest of eight suspects. Seven blood-stained weapons, a Zomato t-shirt, a Zomato bag, and three bikes used in the crime have been seized by the authorities, shedding light on the intensity of the investigation.
