A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 has struck off the coast of Peru today, triggering a tsunami warning in the region. The earthquake hit around 12:36 am local time, as reported by Bloomberg with information from the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicenter of the quake was located 8.8 kilometers (5.5 miles) from the Atiquipa district in Peru, particularly in the southern province of Caravelí, approximately 380 miles south of the capital city, Lima. The depth of the earthquake was recorded at 17 miles (28 kilometers).
