The Maharashtra MLC elections saw the ruling Mahayuti alliance, consisting of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, securing a significant victory by winning 9 out of the 11 seats contested. The polls were held to fill the vacancies in the upper house of the state legislature, where members were retiring on July 27. The alliance managed to secure victories for all five BJP candidates, including Pankaja Munde, daughter of the late leader Gopinath Munde. Additionally, two candidates each from Shiv Sena and NCP also emerged victorious in the elections.

On the other hand, the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, comprising the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP) factions, fielded three candidates. Congress leader Pradnya Satav and Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Milind Narvekar emerged as winners in the biennial elections. Despite efforts, the MVA alliance could not secure the win for the third candidate due to the required quota of 23 MLA votes for election.

The high-stakes polls saw a total of 12 candidates vying for the 11 seats, with heavy rains in Mumbai prompting opposition parties to seek an extension in polling hours. The final results reflected a clear victory for the Mahayuti alliance in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, providing a morale boost following the disappointing Lok Sabha election results. The alliance’s success is expected to set a positive tone for the upcoming Assembly polls in the state, with leaders expressing confidence in the unity and strength of their coalition.
