Massive Power Outage Grips Several Parts of Delhi Amid Heatwave and Water Crisis

Several parts of the national capital, Delhi, were hit by power cuts on Tuesday due to a fire at a sub-station of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) in Mandola, Uttar Pradesh. Delhi minister Atishi took to social platform X to address the issue, mentioning that the outage was a result of the fire at the sub-station which supplies 1200 MW of power to Delhi. As a consequence, many areas of Delhi were affected by the power cuts.

Atishi expressed her concerns about the national power infrastructure failure and stated that the power restoration process had begun to bring back electricity gradually to different areas. She further highlighted her intention to meet with the Union Power Minister and the chairman of PGCIL to ensure such a situation does not reoccur.

Social media was abuzz with complaints from users about the power cuts in their localities, showcasing the inconvenience faced by residents amidst scorching heat. The power outage exacerbated the issues already plaguing Delhi, including a heatwave and water crisis.

In addition to the power outage, Delhi faces a significant double blow of the heatwave and water shortage. The water crisis in the national capital has seen long lines of people around water tankers, highlighting the struggles of residents. The Delhi government attributed the water crisis to the Haryana government blocking its share of water. As a result, the AAP government plans to re-approach the Supreme Court to address the ongoing water scarcity.

Overall, the power outage in Delhi has underscored the vulnerability of essential services during challenging times, urging authorities to work towards robust infrastructure and preparedness to mitigate future crises.
