Meta, previously known as Facebook, has officially made its AI chatbot, powered by Llama-3, available to all users in India. This move comes after months of testing during the general elections in the country. The chatbot, known as Meta AI, is set to revolutionize the way users interact with AI technology in India. Currently, Meta AI only supports English and is accessible through WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook.

Meta started testing the AI chatbot in India back in April, initially rolling it out to select users before expanding its availability. The company has now made Meta AI available through the search bar in its apps, as well as on the meta.ai website. The functionality of Meta AI is similar to other existing chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude.

Users can leverage Meta AI to perform various tasks such as suggesting recipes, planning workouts, composing emails, summarizing text, and even generating images based on prompts. For instance, in Instagram, the chatbot can recommend Reels to watch based on search queries, while on Facebook, users can engage with Meta AI by asking questions related to posts they come across.

One interesting feature of Meta AI is its integration into WhatsApp, allowing both individual and group chat interactions. Users can seek recommendations for activities like trip planning or movie selection within their group chats. While Meta AI lacks the context of group conversations, it learns and improves based on user interaction.

Despite some biases found in Meta AI’s image generation, the company assures continuous updates and improvements to enhance user experience. The rollout of Meta AI in India aligns with Google’s recent extension of its Gemini app to Indian users, highlighting the growing trend of AI integration in everyday applications. With Meta AI now reaching a substantial user base in India, the chatbot is poised to transform the AI landscape in the country.
