The National Eligibility and Entrance Test postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024 examination, originally slated for June 23, has been postponed by the Union Health Ministry. This decision has been made in light of recent allegations regarding irregularities in competitive exams, including NEET-UG. In response to these concerns, President of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences Abhijat Sheth has assured that the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols will be reviewed promptly, with a new examination date set to be announced by next week.
Following a review meeting between officials from the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences and the Union Health Ministry, it was decided to postpone the NEET-PG 2024 examination. The integrity of the NEET-PG examination has been emphasized by Sheth, stating that the government aims to maintain the sanctity, safety, and security of the examination process.
In light of recent events and concerns raised by student communities, the government is taking precautionary measures to ensure transparency and fairness in the examination process. Additionally, a high-level committee of experts, led by ISRO former chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, has been constituted to recommend reforms in the examination mechanism and data security protocols.
Furthermore, efforts are being made to address the issue of paper leaks in examinations. The case of alleged NEET-UG paper leak has been transferred to the CBI, with the agency collecting all relevant material evidence from the Bihar police to conduct a comprehensive investigation.
In response to the postponement of the NEET-PG examination, protests have arisen, with student unions demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The unrest highlights the frustrations and disillusionment among students regarding the integrity of nationwide examinations.
The Ministry of Health regrets any inconvenience caused to students due to the postponement and assures that the decision has been taken in the best interests of the students. As the examination process undergoes thorough review and reforms, measures are being implemented to restore students’ confidence in the fairness and transparency of the examination system.
