The Telugu Desam Party, led by Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh, has reiterated its unwavering support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an exclusive interview with CNN-News18. Lokesh emphasized that the party’s backing for Modi is unconditional, citing the need for strong leadership with a vision to elevate India to a developed nation.

Contrary to speculation, Lokesh clarified that the TDP has never sought Cabinet berths, highlighting their focus on job creation and economic development in Andhra Pradesh. He expressed the party’s intention to generate 20 lakh jobs, leveraging the state’s resources like the longest coastline for employment opportunities.

Addressing political differences within the alliance, particularly on issues like the Uniform Civil Code, Lokesh emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue among NDA partners to find solutions. He recalled the amicable relationship TDP had with former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and expressed a similar desire for cooperative governance.

Regarding the issue of special status for Andhra Pradesh, Lokesh underscored the state’s unique developmental challenges following its bifurcation. He stressed the commitment to creating jobs and leveraging the region’s potential for economic growth.

Furthermore, Lokesh dismissed claims of lobbying for ministerial berths, focusing instead on seeking funds and incentives for industrial promotion in Andhra Pradesh. The TDP’s electoral success, with 16 Lok Sabha seats and 135 assembly seats, positions it as a significant player in the NDA coalition.

In response to questions about the party’s future strategy amidst political upheaval, Lokesh asserted TDP’s resilience in the face of adversity. He cited historical instances of the party overcoming challenges and reiterated the cadre’s unwavering support for Naidu’s leadership.

Amidst ongoing legal battles and political uncertainties, Lokesh remains steadfast in the party’s commitment to advocating for Andhra Pradesh’s interests and pursuing collaborative governance with the NDA partners.
