OnePlus Nord 4: Metal Build, 6 Years of Software Support, and More Revealed

The anticipation for the upcoming OnePlus Nord 4 is reaching its peak as the launch date of July 16 approaches. OnePlus is known for its innovative designs, and this time they are bringing back the use of metal in phone construction. The OnePlus Nord 4 will feature a metal unibody made from aluminum, a design choice inspired by the qualities of durability, beauty, permanence, and strength.

In a recent interview with OnePlus President and COO Kinder Liu, he shared insights into why the company opted for a metal design. Liu explained that the resurgence of metal was driven by the need for a material that can withstand hard drops and resist the effects of time, such as micro scratches. Additionally, metal construction helps dissipate heat more effectively, leading to better performance during tasks like gaming.

The shift from metal to glass in smartphone design was primarily influenced by the rise of 5G networks. With the OnePlus Nord 4, OnePlus managed to incorporate metal while maintaining 5G compatibility by redesigning antennas to be 50% smaller and strategically placing them within the device. Plastic inserts further reinforce signal strength, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity.

Beyond its robust design, the OnePlus Nord 4 comes with an impressive software support package. The device will receive four years of Android updates, starting from Android 14 and extending up to Android 18. OnePlus is also committed to providing an additional two years of crucial feature updates and security patches, totaling six years of software support, a first for the company’s mid-range lineup.

To guarantee the phone’s longevity and performance, OnePlus conducted a rigorous 72-month fluency test in collaboration with TÜV SÜD. The test simulated extensive usage scenarios, ensuring that the OnePlus Nord 4 remains as smooth and efficient after six years as it is on day one. Additionally, the battery underwent 1,600 charging cycles without significant degradation.

As the launch event on July 16 draws near, more details about the OnePlus Nord 4’s specifications, pricing, and availability are set to be unveiled. Stay tuned for the official reveal of OnePlus’ latest mid-range offering, promising a blend of premium design, extended software support, and enduring performance.
