Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Masoud Pezeshkian, the newly elected President of Iran, emphasizing the warm and long-standing bilateral relationship between India and Iran. Pezeshkian emerged victorious in the run-off election, defeating hardliner Saeed Jalili. With 53.7% of the votes, Pezeshkian garnered 16.3 million ballots, showcasing a commitment to open Iran to the world. World leaders, including President Vladimir Putin, King Salman, and President Xi Jinping, extended their congratulations to the President-elect, expressing hopes for strengthening bilateral relations. India has maintained a close relationship with Iran, notably during the late President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi’s tenure. The partnership between India and Iran has expanded in various sectors, with a particular focus on infrastructure cooperation, such as the Chabahar project and the International North-South Transport Corridor. The election of Pezeshkian marks a new chapter in Iran’s leadership, and as Prime Minister Modi looks forward to working closely with him, both countries aim to further enhance their ties for the benefit of their peoples and the region.
