On the 10th International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the celebrations in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, despite a rain delay. The event, initially scheduled to be held on the banks of the Dal Lake, was moved indoors due to incessant rain.
Addressing the nation, PM Modi emphasized the importance of yoga in fostering individual well-being and societal harmony. He highlighted how yoga has become a global phenomenon and talked about its role as a powerful agent for global good.
Over the years, PM Modi has led Yoga Day celebrations at various iconic locations, including the SKICC in Srinagar, Delhi’s Kartavya Path, Chandigarh, and the UN Headquarters in New York. This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Self and Society’, focuses on the double benefits of yoga in enhancing personal well-being and improving society at large.
Despite the rain, the spirit of yoga was alive as PM Modi engaged in a 30-minute yoga session aimed at promoting health and wellness on a global scale. The Prime Minister’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir holds significance as the region is gearing up for upcoming Assembly elections.
Various dignitaries and officials joined the celebrations across India, with events held in different states, including Assam, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. The participation of Union Ministers and Chief Ministers emphasized the widespread appeal and benefits of practicing yoga. Overall, the International Yoga Day celebrations showcased India’s ancient art and science of yoga as a gift to the world, urging individuals to incorporate yoga into their daily lives for a healthier and happier existence.
