Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to embark on a significant visit to Russia and Austria from July 8 to 10, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs. This visit holds immense importance as it marks Modi’s first visit to Russia in nearly five years. The primary focus of the visit will be to hold the 22nd India-Russia annual summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The annual summit between India and Russia is a crucial institutional dialogue mechanism in their strategic partnership. Over the years, these summits have played a pivotal role in deepening and diversifying the multifaceted relations between the two nations. The last summit, held in December 2021 in New Delhi, saw the signing of numerous MoUs and agreements, further boosting the partnership. Modi’s visit to Russia comes at a critical juncture, given the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has strained international relations. Despite the situation, both leaders are expected to review the entire range of relations and discuss contemporary regional and global issues of mutual interest. Modi’s stand on the conflict, emphasizing diplomacy and dialogue, highlights India’s commitment to peaceful resolutions. Following his visit to Russia, PM Modi will travel to Austria, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 41 years. The diplomatic ties between India and Austria have a long history, with both countries actively engaging in various sectors like innovation and entrepreneurship. The ‘India-Austria Startup Bridge’ launched earlier this year is a testament to their dedication to fostering collaboration. Overall, Modi’s visit to both Russia and Austria signifies India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, enhancing cooperation, and exploring new avenues for partnership. It is a crucial opportunity to further solidify relations with these nations and explore avenues for mutual growth and development.
