On the 50th anniversary of the Emergency imposed by the Congress-led government on June 25, 1975, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders led a strong counterattack to the Opposition’s narrative regarding the Constitution. The Prime Minister took to social media to pay homage to those who resisted the Emergency, highlighting how the Congress subverted basic freedoms and trampled over the revered Indian Constitution. In his statement, PM Modi criticized the Congress for disregarding democratic principles and turning the nation into a jail, subjecting dissenters to torture and harassment. He called out the hypocrisy of those who imposed the Emergency and claimed to be defenders of the Constitution.
