Prajwal Revanna, a suspended JD(S) leader, has been sent to 6-day SIT custody in connection with a sex video case. The special investigation team sought 14 days of custody for the 33-year-old after his recent arrest at Bengaluru airport upon his return from Germany. The ministry of external affairs initiated the process of revoking his diplomatic passport, which facilitated his arrest. The allegations against Prajwal surfaced a month ago, leading to a major political storm involving his father and former PM HD Deve Gowda.
During his custody, Prajwal’s lawyers will have limited access to meet him for one hour in the morning. The SIT, which deputed an all-woman police team to arrest him, is considering a potency test on Prajwal to determine his capability of sexual assault on victims.
Furthermore, the court has allowed daily meetings between Prajwal and his legal representatives. His mother’s anticipatory bail plea in a kidnapping case was rejected, while the SIT is urging more victims to come forward without fear to provide complaints. The investigation team is focusing on examining mobile phone data and trace victims to unveil a larger conspiracy.
In light of the case, former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai emphasized the importance of a fair SIT probe to deliver justice to the victims. Prajwal’s family, known for its political influence, has been entangled in a complex legal battle with multiple allegations against the MP. Despite the ongoing developments, Prajwal has expressed cooperation with the authorities and urged for a halt to media trial against him.
