The controversy surrounding the alleged misuse of power by probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar has escalated, with the central government forming a one-member committee to investigate the matter. The panel, chaired by a senior officer of the rank of additional secretary, will probe allegations related to fake certificates and her conduct during probation. The investigation report is expected to be submitted within two weeks.
In addition to the central government’s probe, the Pune traffic police have initiated action against Khedkar for the unauthorized use of an amber beacon on her personal Audi car. The vehicle, marked with ‘Government of Maharashtra,’ has raised concerns over the misuse of official privileges. A legal notice has been sent to Khedkar, and there is a pending fine of Rs 21,000 for violating traffic rules.
The controversy also involves allegations that Khedkar submitted fake disability and Other Backward Class (OBC) certificates to clear the civil services exam. She has been transferred from Pune to Washim, following complaints of misconduct. Leaders and officials have demanded a comprehensive investigation into the selection process and the authenticity of her credentials. Vijay Wadettiwar, Leader Of the Opposition in the Maharashtra State Assembly, highlighted the need for a probe into the matter.
The fresh trouble for Khedkar also includes accusations of taking undue benefits under disability and OBC quotas during the UPSC exam. A one-member panel has been formed by the Central government to investigate these claims further. Khedkar, who has assumed her new role as an assistant collector at the Washim District Collectorate, is facing scrutiny over the alleged misuse of power and property.
Amidst mounting pressure and investigations, Khedkar has refrained from commenting on the controversy, stating that service rules restrict her from speaking on the matter. The police have visited her residence to inquire about the misuse of official privileges, including the unauthorized use of a red beacon light and VIP number on her private Audi car.
