In a recent development regarding the Pune Porsche crash case, a committee formed to investigate the conduct of two Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) members has uncovered “procedural lapses”, “misconduct”, and “non-compliance of norms”. The incident, which occurred on May 19 in Kalyani Nagar, resulted in the death of two IT professionals after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding Porsche car allegedly driven by a minor under the influence of alcohol.
The case garnered national attention when the JJB granted bail to the accused individual on lenient terms, including the requirement to write a 300-word essay on road safety. The five-member committee submitted its report to the Women and Child Development (WCD) department commissioner on Friday. Following the report’s recommendations, the WCD department issued notices to the two JJB members appointed in connection to the case.
According to a senior official, numerous errors and irregularities were discovered in the bail order issued by one of the JJB members. The findings revealed that both members were involved in misconduct and failed to comply with established norms. As part of the investigation, the committee interviewed the two members and investigated their roles in the decision-making process.
The WCD commissioner, Dr. Prashant Narnavare, confirmed the submission of the report and stated that show cause notices have been issued to the implicated JJB members. They are required to provide their responses within the next four to five days. This development underscores the importance of accountability in the justice system and highlights the need for transparency in legal proceedings related to such sensitive cases.
