A tragic incident unfolded in Rajkot, Gujarat, on May 25, 2024, as a massive fire broke out at a game zone, resulting in the loss of 33 lives, including nine children. The fire engulfed the play zone, which lacked basic safety measures such as fire extinguishers and emergency exits, leading to a horrific outcome.
The play zone, a four-year-old amusement park, was constructed with temporary structures featuring tin roofs and two floors. The absence of necessary licenses and approvals raised concerns about the safety protocols followed by the management.
As rescue operations continued, the bodies were charred beyond recognition, and DNA samples were collected to identify the deceased. The State government has initiated a probe to ascertain if the game zone complied with safety regulations.
Political leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, expressed sorrow over the tragedy and called for accountability and swift justice for the victims. Similarly, Chief Ministers from different states extended their condolences to the affected families.
The mishap prompted Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to set up a Special Investigation Team to investigate the incident thoroughly. He also announced compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured.
