Ramoji Rao, the head of the ETV Network and Ramoji Film City, passed away at the age of 87 in Hyderabad today. He was reportedly rushed to Star Hospital in Hyderabad on June 5 after suffering from high blood pressure and breathlessness, but unfortunately, he couldn’t recover. His remains have been shifted to his residence at Ramoji Film City, where several prominent political leaders and film personalities are expected to arrive to pay their last respects.

Born in 1936, Ramoji Rao, also known as Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, was the head of the Ramoji Group, which owns the world’s largest film production facility, Ramoji Film City. Additionally, he headed the Eenadu newspaper, one of the largest circulated Telugu-language daily newspapers. He was a significant figure in the rise of the Telugu Desam Party in the 1980s, with support from the Eenadu newspaper group.

Apart from his media ventures, Ramoji Rao was also a prolific film producer, having produced about 50 films and telefilms. His contributions to journalism, literature, and education were recognized in 2016 when he was honored with the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor.

Senior BJP leader G Kishan Reddy expressed his condolences, highlighting Rao’s remarkable contributions to Telugu media and journalism. Politicians, film personalities, and the public have been mourning the loss of a pioneer in Indian media landscape. Ramoji Rao’s legacy will continue to inspire generations in the world of media and entertainment.
