The excitement is building up as India gears up for the Paris Olympics 2024, scheduled to begin on July 26 and continue until August 11. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has recently unveiled a 28-member track and field team for the prestigious event, with some notable inclusions and omissions.
Leading the pack is Olympic and world champion in men’s javelin throw, Neeraj Chopra. The 26-year-old star athlete headlines the squad, bringing with him a wealth of experience and expectations as India’s top contender in the field events.
One of the major talking points from the selection is the absence of Kiran Pahal from the Indian women’s 4x400m relay team. Despite her impressive performances and achievements, Kiran did not make the cut for the relay team, as the AFI stuck to its policy of including only national campers. However, Kiran will be competing in the individual 400m event after securing the qualification standard.
Another significant exclusion from the team is javelin thrower DP Manu, who was provisionally suspended for doping, resulting in him being left out of the squad. On the other hand, long jumper Jeswin Aldrin is expected to be added to the team later, following the withdrawal of M Sreeshankar due to injury.
The 28-member Indian athletics contingent features a mix of seasoned veterans and promising young talents. From Asian Games champions like Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Avinash Sable to emerging stars like Jyothi Yarraji and Parul Chaudhary, the team boasts a diverse set of athletes ready to take on the world stage.
With the track and field competitions set to take place at the iconic Stade de France Stadium, the Indian athletes will be looking to make their mark and bring glory to the nation. As the countdown to the Paris Olympics begins, all eyes will be on the Indian athletics squad as they aim for success on the global stage.
