In a surprising turn of events in the ongoing trial of the Sheena Bora murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed the special CBI court in Mumbai on Wednesday that the previously untraceable human bones belonging to the victim have been found at the CBI’s office in New Delhi. Sheena Bora, a 24-year-old woman, was allegedly murdered by her mother Indrani Mukerjea and others in 2012. This revelation comes after the prosecution had earlier stated that the bones were missing.
The trial court received an email alleging that the bones were not lost but instead in the possession of a forensic expert who had examined the skeleton and was appearing as a witness in court. The email further implied that the witness had acquired significant wealth, raising suspicions. Judge S P Naik Nimbalkar informed the defense lawyers present about the email, prompting them to call for an investigation into the matter. The CBI, on the other hand, mentioned that although the bones were found in the office ‘malkhana’, they were not included as evidence in the chargesheet and thus were not relied upon.
Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the murder case, is currently out on bail. The murder case gained public attention in 2015, three years after Sheena was allegedly strangled in a car by her mother, with the assistance of her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai. The body was reportedly burned in a forest in the Raigad district, shedding light on a chilling crime that had remained undetected for years.
This latest development in the Sheena Bora trial has added a new layer of complexity to the case, with concerns raised about the handling of crucial evidence and potential implications for the investigation. As the trial progresses, the search for truth and justice in this high-profile murder case continues to captivate the nation’s attention.
