Shubman Gill has been appointed as the captain of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe, slated to begin on July 6th. The young batter, who recently led Gujarat Titans in the IPL, will be at the helm of a fresh-faced squad for the white-ball tour. This decision follows the rest granted to senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah, currently competing in the T20 World Cup in the Americas.

Joining Gill in the squad are debutants Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Reddy, all of whom have earned their maiden call-ups to the national team based on their impressive performances in the last IPL season. Parag and Sharma, in particular, stood out with their batting prowess, with Parag finishing third in the Orange Cap standings after accumulating 573 runs, while Sharma scored 484 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Apart from these fresh faces, the Indian team for the Zimbabwe series also includes players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Washington Sundar. Jaiswal and Samson, who were on the bench during the T20 World Cup, will be looking to make their mark in the upcoming series. Washington Sundar, along with Ravi Bishnoi, will provide spin options, while Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, and Tushar Deshpande will lead the pace attack.

The Zimbabwe tour comprises five T20 Internationals, and the young Indian squad will be eager to prove their mettle on the international stage. With the guidance of captain Shubman Gill and the energy of the debutants, Team India is gearing up for an exciting series against Zimbabwe.
