SpaceX is gearing up for the fourth test flight of its massive Starship rocket, scheduled for liftoff at 8 a.m. ET on June 6. The Starship rocket, consisting of an upper-stage spacecraft and a Super Heavy booster, will launch from SpaceX’s private facility in Boca Chica, Texas. This mission aims to demonstrate the rocket’s reusability by executing a landing burn and soft splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico with the Super Heavy booster. The live stream of the launch will be available on SpaceX’s website 30 minutes before liftoff.

The Federal Aviation Administration granted SpaceX the necessary launch license for Flight 4, following exhaustive investigations into the failures of previous test flights. SpaceX plans to follow a similar path as Flight 3, with Starship reaching orbital velocity and re-entering over the Indian Ocean, while the Super Heavy booster lands in the Gulf of Mexico. The ultimate goal is to land humans on Mars as part of NASA’s Artemis program, with the first crewed lander mission scheduled for September 2026.

The development of Starship is crucial for the future of space exploration, as it is envisioned to enable crew and cargo transportation to Earth orbit, the moon, Mars, and beyond. SpaceX’s rapid development approach involves quick prototyping and learning from failures to enhance the rocket’s design with each test flight. CEO Elon Musk emphasized the significance of Starship’s success in achieving the company’s mission of colonizing Mars and conducting regular space travel.
