The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed on June 17 on account of Eid-ul-Adha. Trading in derivatives, equities, SLBs, and currency derivatives, as well as in interest rate derivatives will remain shut for the day.
The commodity derivatives segment will remain closed in the morning session – from 9am to 5pm, while the evening session will remain open from 5pm to 11.55pm. Trading on both the NSE and the BSE will resume on Tuesday, June 18.
On June 14, Indian markets soared to a fresh record high. Benchmark Sensex ended higher for a third session while Nifty closed higher for the fourth straight session. At closing, Sensex closed 0.24 percent higher or 182 points to 76,992.77 while Nifty ended 0.29 percent or 66.7 points higher at 23,465.60. Among sectoral indices, BSE Capital goods was the top gainer, up 1.7 percent followed by BSE Telecommunication, Consumer durables, and consumer discretionary, which were up 1.3 percent each. Among losers, BSE IT index fell 0.7 percent. BSE Midcap and smallcap gained 1 percent each.
The stock market will be closed for trading on Monday, June 17, in honour of Bakra Eid or Bakrid. This closure comprises all segments, such as stocks, derivatives, and SLBs. Normal trading will resume on Tuesday, June 18, according to BSE’s official website.
Furthermore, the Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX) will be closed in the morning session on June 17 but will reopen in the evening from 5:00 PM until either 11:30 PM or 11:55 PM. The Indian market has 15 holidays scheduled for the calendar year 2024. The other ones are Muharram on July 17, Independence Day on August 15, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday on October 2, Diwali on November 1, Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 15, and Christmas on December 25, when trading activity would be prohibited.
