Tragedy struck the Verna industrial estate in Goa as four labourers lost their lives and five others were critically injured in a devastating bus accident on Saturday night. The incident occurred at around 11:30 pm when an out-of-control bus crashed into the roadside shanties where the labourers were sleeping. The victims, all hailing from Bihar and working on a road project at the industrial estate, were caught unaware as the speeding bus collided with the huts made of metal sheets.
The bus, which was transporting employees of Rosenberger Interconnect Private Ltd, a telecommunications equipment company, reportedly rammed into the shanties, resulting in a tragic loss of lives. Three labourers died on the spot, while a fourth succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Among the injured, one individual is in a serious condition, highlighting the severity of the accident.
Allegations have surfaced that the bus driver was driving under the influence of alcohol, leading to the catastrophic collision. The surviving labourers have accused the driver of negligence and irresponsibility, claiming that he put their lives at risk. The driver has been detained by the authorities as an investigation into the incident is underway to shed light on the circumstances that led to this unfortunate tragedy.
The Goa Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, expressed condolences over the incident and assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the accident. The driver, along with the contractors and subcontractors involved, will face legal consequences for their role in the mishap.
