In a heartbreaking incident that took place on the night of June 12 in Ghaziabad’s Loni area, a total of five individuals, including two women, a seven-year-old girl, and a seven-month-old baby, tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire that engulfed a three-storey house in Behta Hajipur locality. The local police and fire services were alerted to the situation late at night when it was reported that several individuals were trapped inside the burning house.
The fire, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, is said to have originated from the ground floor of the building, leading to the occupants being trapped on the upper levels. The authorities were able to rescue a woman and a child who sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical attention, but unfortunately, five bodies were recovered from the scene, including those of two adults and three children.
The community members informed the police that the fire spread rapidly due to the presence of thermocol/foam material stored inside the house, intensifying the blaze. The identities of the deceased are still being confirmed, and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
Among the deceased were identified as Nazra, 26, her daughter Ikra, 7, Shaiful Rehman, 35, Mohammad Faiz, just seven months old, and Parveen, 28, all belonging to the same family. The ground floor of the house reportedly stored materials similar to thermocol cups, prompting authorities to inspect whether any commercial activities were being conducted within the residential property.
The local fire department received the distress call around 9:15 pm, prompting the dispatch of four fire tenders to the location. However, the narrow lanes leading to the house and overcrowding in the area posed challenges for the firefighters, who had to navigate their equipment through difficult terrain to reach the burning building.
The fire, which engulfed the ground floor and subsequently the upper levels, was finally under control after two hours of intense firefighting efforts. The hazardous conditions, including thick smoke and raging flames, hindered the rescue operations, leading to a partial collapse of the second-floor roof during the firefighting process. The tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and vigilance in households to prevent such devastating losses in the future.
