Tragic Landslides in Nepal Claim Lives of 9 Including 3 Children

Tragedy struck Nepal as heavy monsoon rains led to devastating landslides claiming the lives of at least nine people, including three children. The landslides were triggered by heavy rainfall in the mountainous districts of the country, about 250 kilometers west of the capital, Kathmandu. The National Disaster Rescue and Reduction Management Authority reported that five members of a family lost their lives when their house was swept away by a landslide in Malika village in Gulmi district. This heart-wrenching incident took the lives of two children among the family members. Additionally, in Syangja district, a woman and her three-year-old daughter fell victim to a landslide that engulfed their house, while in Baglung district, two individuals lost their lives due to another landslide. This unfortunate event adds to the toll of at least 35 people across Nepal who have lost their lives to landslides, floods, and lightning strikes since the onset of the monsoon season. Landslides and flash floods are a common occurrence in Nepal during the monsoon season, causing significant fatalities annually. The monsoon season in Nepal is known to bring heavy rains, triggering landslides and wreaking havoc in the mountainous terrain of the country. The recent landslides have once again highlighted the vulnerability of the region to natural disasters during this time of the year, emphasizing the need for preparedness and effective disaster management measures.
