The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or TRAI has responded to claims of customers being charged for holding multiple SIM cards or numbering resources. TRAI has refuted the false claims and stated that they are completely baseless and serve only to mislead the public. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) sought TRAI’s recommendations on the revised National Numbering Plan for efficient management and utilization of numbering resources. In response, TRAI issued a Consultation Paper (CP) on the revision of the National Numbering Plan to evaluate factors affecting the allocation and utilization of TI resources. The regulator emphasized its commitment to minimum regulatory intervention and urged stakeholders to refer to the official press release for accurate information. TRAI has denied reports of imposing charges on customers for multiple SIMs in a notification issued on June 14. With the release of a consultation paper on the Revision of National Numbering Plan, TRAI seeks comments from stakeholders to ensure fair and transparent telecommunications practices.
