In a recent development, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has warned of strict action against NTA officials involved in NEET irregularities. The Minister stated that any irregularities found in the conduct of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) will not be tolerated. He mentioned that some students were allocated less time than required during the exam, leading to dissatisfaction. Moreover, grace marks were awarded, which the government had previously disapproved of. As a result, a re-examination has been directed for 1,563 affected students as per the Supreme Court order.

The Minister emphasized that officials of the NTA, irrespective of their positions, will face consequences if found guilty. He highlighted the need for reforms in the NTA’s functioning and assured that the government is looking into all issues. NEET 2024 was conducted at numerous centers across India and overseas locations, with over 24 lakhs candidates appearing for the exam. Following the results declaration, concerns were raised over the integrity of NEET due to the grace marks awarded to some students.

The controversy surrounding NEET has led to the recommendation of a re-conduct of the exam for the 1,563 candidates who experienced time loss during the initial examination. This re-examination is scheduled for June 23. The increased number of exam takers this year has resulted in a higher number of top scorers. The NTA has addressed concerns of irregularities and inflation of marks, maintaining transparency in the examination process. The Education Ministry has set up a panel to review the grace marks awarded and ensure that no student is disadvantaged in the process.
