The tragic incident in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district has left two truckers dead and one seriously injured, allegedly at the hands of cow vigilantes near the temple town of Arang. The victims, Guddu Khan alias Mohamed Tehsin (35) and Chand Miya (33), both hailing from Uttar Pradesh, were reportedly attacked by a mob of at least 10-12 men and thrown off a bridge into the River Mahanadi. The third man, Saddam Kureshi, is currently hospitalized in critical condition. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday under the jurisdiction of the Arang police station, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The authorities have initiated a 14-member special team to investigate the case following claims from the victims’ families that the truckers were indeed lynched by the mob. Despite the family’s assertions, the police have stated that there is no concrete evidence at present to classify the incident as mob lynching. Additional Superintendent of Police, Kirtan Rathore, mentioned that the police are reviewing CCTV footage along the route in an attempt to identify the alleged assailants.
After the victims were discovered below the bridge on the Mahanadi river, where their truck was also found, they were rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, one of the truckers succumbed to his injuries, while the other two were in critical condition. The deceased truckers’ bodies have been sent for postmortem, and the police are awaiting the reports.
The community is in shock and disbelief over the tragic events that unfolded in Raipur, raising concerns about the safety and security of individuals transporting cattle. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for justice from the local populace. The authorities are working diligently to uncover the truth behind the attack and bring those responsible to justice.
