Tragedy struck Uttarakhand on a fateful Saturday when a tempo traveller carrying 23 passengers met with a devastating accident, resulting in the loss of at least 10 lives. The incident occurred on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway near Raitoli in the Rudraprayag district. The minibus tragically fell into the Alaknanda River, sparking a massive rescue operation by the State Disaster Response Force and local police authorities.
Eyewitnesses recounted the horrific sight of the vehicle plunging into the gorge and the subsequent chaos as rescue teams rushed to the scene to aid the injured individuals. Numerous individuals who were standing along the roadside also sustained injuries in the accident, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, expressed profound sorrow over the incident, describing it as ‘very sad news.’ He promptly instructed the district magistrate to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. In a heartfelt message, he extended his prayers for the souls of the departed and extended his wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured. The injured are being airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for urgent medical attention.
