On June 25, 2024, authorities at Cochin airport in India quickly neutralized a bomb threat targeting an Air India flight bound for London. Investigations revealed that the caller responsible for the threat was a passenger scheduled to board the same flight. The passenger identified as Suhaib (29) from Kondotty in Malappuram made a hoax bomb threat after the airlines refused to provide him a ticket on another day, citing his child’s illness due to food poisoning. The bomb threat was reported to Air India’s call center in Mumbai targeting flight AI 149 from Cochin to London Gatwick. Cochin Airport activated its Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) and implemented stringent security measures, including security screenings and thorough investigations. Suhaib, along with his wife and daughter, was intercepted during the international departure check-in and handed over to the police for further questioning and legal proceedings. The aircraft, AI 149, was relocated for security checks and cleared for departure, boarding 215 passengers and scheduled to depart on time at 11:50 AM. Despite the alarming incident, the flight proceeded as planned after comprehensive security measures were enacted to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew.
